We have two 500W units made by HPC and one 500W made by IMS. All three located in Maewo Island, Vanuatu, a remote island in the South Pacific Ocean. All three units have suffered loss of magnets. Does anyone know the specifications of the magnets (Neodymium alloy number?), and also does anyone have a schematic of the ELC?

Has anyone come up with a rework design to allow a grease fitting to be installed so the lower bearing can be greased without disassembling the unit?

Finally, has anyone come up with a method of reattaching the magnets. What type of adhesive should be used or is there a satisfactory way of drilling holes in the magnets to reattach with non-magnetic bolts?

Many thanks.

Hello Harry!

Dave Seymour from PowerPal will make a contact with you about your problems. I´ve written him yesterday about your problem.

Rework for greasing:
On IMS units, its quite easy. Just drill a hole in the tunnel beween the two bearings and regrease it every one or two weeks with an oil / grese mixture. You can pump it in by using a medical shot...
Close this hole after regreasing with a screw.
On HPC units, to most problem is to grease the lower bearing. I have installed a grease nipple soldered on a short copper pipe, that leads the grease into the shaft tunnel. Is also some drill work.

For reattaching magnets, please ask Mr. Dave Willcox of PowerPal UK. He has many experiances with this work!

Regards

Simon

Hi, Simon, and many thanks for the email. I contacted David Seymour weeks ago about this problem, and he had no information so far.

Also, thank you for the information on adding a grease fitting for the lower bearings which I will accomplish.

Can you give me the email address of Powerpal UK?

All the best, Harry Hungate

Hello Harry!

It takes some weeks to get those specialized informations out of the factory bulding in Hanoi. And, it´s not so easy for David to get it. I´m sure he does his best to help you!
